TRICHY: A 39-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl on the outskirts of Trichy in the late hours of Wednesday. Both of them have been admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy for medical examination.
The Thuvarankurichi police arrested G Senthilkumar (39), a resident of Thenur near Marungapuri Taluk in Trichy district, for allegedly raping a nine-year-old dalit girl at her residence in a nearby village on Wednesday evening. The victim, who is living with her father and grandmother, was alone at home when the incident took place. The girl's mother had passed away a few years back. The Class IV student's father, who is an employee at a hotel in Kallupatti, was away at work when Senthilkumar came to her residence. Shockingly, the accused was also a labour in the same hotel. As the girl was unable to get rid of his hold, she raised alarm. A neighbour, who witnessed the incident, alerted public, who rescued the girl and captured the accused.
On receiving the information, the Thuvarankurichi police rushed to the spot and arrested Senthilkumar. They booked him under Section 376 of IPC r/w 4, 10 of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Moreover, the accused was also booked under Section 3, 12 of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities (POA) Act as the girl is a dalit.
